Remember the 80's

Today I went to my first High School Assembly since I graduated in 1984. It was Kennedy's Homecoming Assembly and did it bring flashbacks of the 8o's One of the Queen candidates was asked the question, "If you could live in another era, what would it be?" Her response "The 80's"

So, as the day went on I wrote, You grew up in the 80's if:
You wore anything Izod, especially those windbreakers that folded up into a pouch and you could wear around your waist.
You wore your "Izod" shirt collar up.
Three words: "Atari, Apple, and Pong".
Rubik's Cube
You rode in the back of the station wagon and you faced the cars behind you in the "tailgunner" position.
The phrase, "Where's the beef?" still doubles you over with laughter.
You wanted to move to Hawaii, because that's where Magnum lived.
You actually remember Benetton.
You know all the words to the double album set of Grease.
Remember All Skate, Couples skate .
But then you have PacMan, ET, We Are The World and MTV.
Who SHOT J.R.
Jordache Jeans and "Big" hair.
Then I recalled tragedies such as the explosion of the "Challenger", the Iran Contra Scandal. Baby Jessica, The Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, Election of Ronald Reagan. and John Lennon being assassinated, Black Monday and the Chernobyl disaster.
Overall I loved growing up in the 80's!!

Misc. Monday

For a long time I have wanted to work with children who have special needs. I didn't know in what fashion but I knew it was a passion of mine. I ran into a friend who I used to see at Beads & Beyond, and she asked if I still wanted to work with children with special needs and suggested I apply for a Para-Educator position. Anyway, to make a long story short, I just finished my first week, at Kennedy High School, in the Severe and Profound Class.

I am actually a one on one with a girl, who we will call Annie, from 9-2, M-F. There are 5 children in the class with Annie being the only girl. 4 of the 5 are in wheelchairs, and I would say only one is what I would call Severe and Profound. 2 of the 5 live in a group home, while the other 3 live at home with their parents and siblings. I believe you can really tell a difference in the children who live at home, they are much more responsive.

The technology they have out there for these children is amazing. Annie can't move her hands, arms, or legs but is not considered a paraplegic because she is still somewhat mobile. We have made cookies, folded paper, and we even baked a cake today for one of the other boys because it was his birthday today. We use a switch for her to activate the utensils...long story on how it all works but it is cool!!!

We are going bowling on Friday, so I will take my camera, but I will have to see if I can post them on my blog, if not I will at least show you some of my co-workers. We have a great Staff.

El Zapato Grande

Connor's new Basketball Shoes. His feet are growing way too fast...these are 11's. The thing that is so aggravating is that they can't wear shoes from last year's basketball season because they don't fit. I feel like they never really wear them out.

Luke's new basketball shoes, which are a size 7. He is now in men's since he crossed the size 7 mark which automatically adds 20-40 bucks more on to the shoes. That is another thing that irritates me but Luke seems to wear his shoes out some how.

Here are the two boys next to each other, aren't they cute :)

I thought since I was talking pictures I might as well get them to pose for me.

Boy's are a constant SON-shine !

FRIDAY FLASHBACK

"Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine."

More Harding Football

Yesterday the Harding Football Team played LinnMar and both teams did very well!! Both the A & B teams won. Remember me talking about my favorite Blog Stalker, well this is his son, Andrew, and he was injured in the game.

Here is Andrew, obviously in great pain, talking with Coach.

LOOK......out of no where, there goes Dad(the infamous Blog Stalker) charging the field.
Now, Dad used to Coach Football, back in the day, you know when kids were tough and played hurt :) BUT I am sure he just telling his boy to take it easy and relax, ha-ha!! What's this, now the Blog Stalker is brown nosing Coach. I bet he is asking for more play time for his boy.

Hey Dad, does this look like football?? Maybe this is cause for an injury :)

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

This is my time of year.......fall is coming-cool weather-the leaves start to fall-and it is FOOTBALL season!!!!!!! No better show on T.V. than MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

Tonight the Vikings vs. the Packers!! Let's see how those Packers do without Brett Farve-who by the way had a great game yesterday, with the Jets, beating the Dolphins.

I have some weird philosophies about picking the Team I want to win, so tonight I am cheering on the Vikings because I don't like the way the Packers treated Brett Farve. Also, yesterday I was a Jets fan, NEVER have I really cared what the Jets did but now with #4 on their team I want them to WIN!!!!!!

What about Kurt Warner getting the starting job over Leinart. He had a good game and they won, beating the 49er's(23-13).

I like this quote by Bery Berry:

"Kurt is a very smart football player. He's very aware of some of the mistakes he has made in the past," defensive end Bert Berry said. "That is what good football players do: They adjust, they correct those mistakes and they don't put their teams in bad situations. He didn't do that and we were able to take advantage."

It is count down time for MNF!!
